Word from the Pastor
WORD FROM THE PASTOR
(Taken from Feb./March 2010) charge newsletter)
As the winter months grip us with their icy fingers, we warm ourselves by the knowledge that we are the people of faith in a God who has all the power of the universe. And if we are the people of God, I ask you to consider two things: One is that we need know him well if we are going to be able to interpret his love and his will to the world. One way to know him is to read the Scriptures. That’s why I am encouraging as many of us as can to read through the Bible during the year. The second thing is that we need to stay in touch with him. So I’m asking us to rediscover the power and the mystery of prayer.
As I write this, Haiti has just experienced an earthquake of devastating proportions. In such a time of fear and uncertainty - we can entreat our God for help for the people of that region as well as help for all who will be working to alleviate some of the pain of this time.
Oswald Chambers has written: “When we are afraid, the least we can do is pray to God. But our Lord has a right to expect that those who name his name have an underlying confidence in Him. God expects his children to be so confident in him that in any crisis they are the ones who are reliable.”
I guess what I yearn for is that all of us will be the reliable ones, the confident ones of this generation who walk unafraid and who through our loving spirits and our intense desire to help others show forth a God who never forsakes his people. It is not an easy time to be living in, but I also believe it is a time when the need for God’s love and guidance is so important. I continue to hold all of you in my heart and my prayers that we may be a people who show the way for this time.
Blessings,
Pastor Tom
